Frequently Asked Questions
How can I prevent cavities?
The best way to prevent cavities is by brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and rinsing between meals. In addition to following a regular oral hygiene routine, you’ll want to schedule biannual visits at our Seattle office for professional cleanings and checkups.
Professional cleanings are especially important to address those hard to reach areas. Here are a few tips for preventing cavities:
- Avoid sugary and acidic foods
- Ask about dental sealants for children
- Eat tooth-healthy foods
- Drink plenty of water
- Refrain from frequent snacking
- Use oral care products containing fluoride
What should I do in the event that I chip, break, or lose a tooth?
If you chip, break, or lose a tooth, it’s vital that you contact our office immediately by calling (206) 524-1314. In the meantime, here are a few guidelines to follow:
- Rinse the tooth so that it’s free of dirt
- Only handle the tooth by the crown, not the roots
- Place gauze in the socket of the missing tooth and bite down gently to stop the bleeding
- Bring the tooth or remnants to your appointment in a protective container
- Place water or milk in the container to keep the roots from drying out
Successful reimplantation requires that you respond promptly to a lost tooth. We’ll do our best to save your natural tooth. If it’s too damaged, we’ll suggest natural-looking alternatives such as crowns, bridges, or dental implants to restore your smile back to its original appearance.
How can you prevent the risk of a failed dental implant?
Dr. Cederbaum thoroughly screens every detail of a patient’s oral health prior to determining if they’re a good candidate for dental implants. If necessary, she’ll make recommendations to ensure the procedure has the best possible outcome for your health.
Dr. Cederbaum can even perform these supplemental procedures in our office. These procedures include scaling and root planing to address periodontal disease, bone grafting, and sinus lifts to help improve the chances of successful implantation.
If you’re interested in learning about our tooth replacement options, schedule a consultation with Dr. Cederbaum by calling (206) 524-1314. During the consultation, you’ll discuss your smile goals and Dr. Cedarbaum will examine your oral health so she can provide you with all the necessary information to make the best decision.
How long do veneers last?
Dental veneers can last 10 years or longer with proper care. We recommend brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing daily, and rinsing between meals to help them last. In addition to following a regular oral hygiene routine, you’ll want to schedule regular visits at our Seattle office for professional cleanings and checkups.
During these visits, we’ll also examine the overall health of your veneers to ensure they’re intact or we may suggest getting a new set. Here are a few ways you can increase the lifespan of your veneers:
- Protect your smile with a mouthguard when playing contact sports
- Avoid using your teeth as tools
- Avoid foods and beverages that tend to stain your teeth or rinse after consumption
- Address any issues of teeth grinding
- Refrain from biting into hard or tough foods that could damage your veneers
